Brazilīs Embraer says delivered 45 jets in first quarter

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer said that it delivered 45 jets in the first quarter of this year.

It delivered 38 jets to commercial airlines and 7 executive jets, the company said in a statement.

Its total orders rose by $1.5 billion to a record $20.3 billion. The company said it had firm orders for 509 commercial aircraft.

Embraer is the worldīs leading producer of regional jets in the 70-to-120 seat niche.

But it is facing new competition from its long-standing rival, Bombardier. The Canadian company wants to develop a new 110-to 130-seat airliner.

Japanīs Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. also announced plans last month to build a regional jet with 70 to 90 seats.
