Air China Moves its Shanghai Airport Operations to Terminal 2 Pudong

Terminal 2 Pudong contains three sections: the main building, the waiting hall corridor and apron. Spanning 485,000sqm, itīs 1.7 times the size of T1 Pudong, and 3.2 times the size of the terminal at Hongqiao. The top floor is for ticketing /international departure, the middle floor for international arrival, and the ground floor for domestic departure/arrival/transfer. Air Chinaīs counters for international flights are located at Island H, and counters for domestic flights at Island K. Compared with T1 Pudong, the distance between international counters and domestic counters is much shorter, sparing travelers from trekking long distances between the two areas.

Itīs easy to access or leave T2. The transportation center between T1 and T2 is where passengers get on trains, shuttle buses, taxis or long distance buses. The public car park offers 6,000 parking lots. Ferry bus service is available between the two terminals for transfer passengers. It runs from 6am to 21pm, at an interval of 10 minutes.

Domestic departure and domestic arrival are on the same floor. That design, the first of the genre in China, is more transfer passengers-friendly since it tremendously cuts the intervening waiting time and passengers can directly go through their usual formalities at international transfer counters without leaving the restricted area. According to the design, the domestic-domestic transfer and international-international transfer take 45 minutes on average, while international vs. domestic transfer takes about 60 minutes on average.

As one of the major carriers operating from T2 Pudong, Air China will put into service state-of-the-art Departure Control System (DCS) and Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS). Self-check in devices allow passengers to pick seat and print boarding pass by themselves, giving them an experience of easy travel from the very start. Information, ticketing and special services are also available. Elite members of the PhoenixMiles Program are entitled to personal guidance and all the amenities in lounges.

Moving into T2 Pudong marks Air Chinaīs another important step in carrying out its hub strategy, and reflects its commitment to quality service based on better facilities.
